Insights from Our Founder

Running a yacht charter company takes more than knowing the sea. In this interview with The National Herald, Elena Nabilskaya, founder of G2G Yachting, shares how the company began, what drives its approach to client service, and how it’s growing into a trusted name in global yacht travel. From early experiences on deck to today’s vision for the future, here’s an honest look behind the scenes.

1. What was the original vision or idea that inspired you to start G2G-Yachting, and how has it evolved over the years?

I’ve been working in yachting since 2011, but the idea for G2G Yachting came later, after spending years getting to know the ins and outs of the industry.

I started out almost by accident. Someone suggested I take a temporary job as a yachting stewardess, and out of curiosity, I accepted. Before that, I worked in travel planning, organizing trips and excursions, so tourism was already familiar to me. Once I stepped into yachting, though, I got hooked.

In the end, I consider myself lucky to have learned the yachting business from A to Z, without missing a single detail. I saw how everything worked behind the scenes, from contracts and client requests to embarkation, life on board, and final disembarkation. At one point, I even worked as a chef on yachts before returning to the office to handle operations. That mix of hands-on experience at sea and technical work on land helped me understand what truly makes a charter run smoothly, where problems can appear, how misunderstandings start, and what to do to prevent them.

When I finally launched G2G Yachting, my goal was simple: to help clients understand what a yacht vacation truly is. Not just glossy pictures and promises, but detailed, honest information. Our website offers in-depth guides about destinations, weather, sailing routes, and what to expect on board. We want clients to come prepared, knowing both the positives and the potential challenges.

That’s how we build trust. When someone books through us, they know exactly what kind of experience they’re getting, whether they prefer a private, quiet charter or a more social, lively one. We stay in touch before, during, and after the trip. Our team is available 24/7 via phone or WhatsApp, not just through formal email. If clients need help with transfers, restaurant bookings, or even last-minute plans, we’re there. The goal is for them to feel comfortable and supported from the moment they book until the day they disembark.

Over the years, our vision has grown. We want G2G Yachting to become a trusted global name in yacht travel—a company known not just for service, but for genuine guidance. The name itself, Guide to Global Yachting, reflects exactly what we stand for: helping people explore the world by sea with confidence, clarity, and care.

2. What are the biggest challenges in managing a yacht charter company, especially when dealing with international destinations and varying maritime regulations?

G2G Yachting operates globally, organizing charters across various destinations, from the Mediterranean to the Caribbean. Managing charters across different regions involves dealing with a diverse mix of nationalities, expectations, and sailing conditions on a weekly basis. That’s why yacht shows are so important. They allow us to personally visit destinations, inspect yachts, meet crews, and sense the atmosphere before recommending them to our clients.

One challenge is communication. Not everyone feels comfortable sharing what they truly think over the phone or email. Some worry that agents just want to sell, not advise. That’s why we focus so much on honesty. We want clients to feel safe expressing their wishes or concerns, and we act as the bridge between them and the crew.

Every week we deal with new personalities, new cultures, new dynamics. The key is clear communication, making sure both sides understand what to expect. Crews need guidance on what each guest values most, and clients need to know how life on board actually works.

Another challenge is managing expectations about the weather. The captain always plans the route carefully, but nature is still in charge. Clients have to understand that flexibility is part of the experience. As we often say, you can’t control the wind; you adjust the sails.

And of course, yachts are complex machines, like floating hotels. Even with the best maintenance, things can occasionally go wrong. What matters most is how fast we respond and how efficiently the crew and office handle the situation. It’s rare, but being prepared makes all the difference.

Finally, something that’s often overlooked: every destination has its own beauty and personality. Sailing in Greece isn’t the same as sailing in Croatia, Italy, or Spain, and that’s the point. Each place has its rhythm, its people, its scenery. Even within Greece, the islands feel entirely different. We always remind our clients not to compare one trip to another. Every voyage is unique, and every place gives you something different.

3. How do you select your yachts and crews—what are the non-negotiable standards when it comes to quality and safety?

We handpick yachts and crews through direct inspections and industry events like yacht shows. These shows allow us to walk through the vessels, meet the teams, and even join “lunch shows” where we can experience the onboard service and cuisine firsthand. That way, you can really sense how the team works together.

Over time, you build trust with certain crews. Sometimes a great team moves to a new yacht, and we’ll follow them there because we know how much their professionalism matters. I’d say the crew represents about 70% of the guests’ overall experience. They can turn a good charter into an unforgettable one.

Our non-negotiables are simple: safety, respect, and genuine hospitality. The crew must treat guests as honored visitors, and guests should reciprocate with the same courtesy. When issues arise, we stay fair and support whoever acts with respect and professionalism.

We remind crews that for many guests, this might be the vacation of a lifetime. They’ve saved for it, dreamed about it, and expect the best. So, whether it’s the food, water sports, or small daily gestures, everything should reflect that care and attention to their expectations.

4. Is there a particular charter experience or client story that stands out as a highlight in the company’s journey?

Our approach is very transparent, so most charters run smoothly without drama or surprises. But there have been many beautiful, emotional moments over the years.

We’ve had couples celebrating anniversaries or renewing vows after 60 years of marriage. Families traveling together before children leave for university. Friends who have known each other for decades finally take the “dream vacation” they always talked about.

Each story reminds us why we do this work. These are people creating memories they’ll carry forever, and it’s a privilege to be part of that.

5. What trends do you see shaping the future of the yachting and marine tourism industry—for example, sustainability, new technologies, or changing customer profiles?

Catamarans have become incredibly popular again. They’re stable, spacious, and more comfortable in varying weather conditions. The new generation of catamarans offers luxury that easily competes with motor yachts, without losing its connection to the sea.

Clients today prefer understated elegance over extravagance. They want simple luxury, calm surroundings, and meaningful experiences. It’s less about showing off and more about feeling present, connected, and relaxed.

We’ve also noticed how preferences vary across age groups. Younger travelers often look for adventure and flexibility, while older guests value comfort, privacy, and personalized service. At the same time, the changing climate has started to shift the yachting season itself. Months that used to be considered “mid-season” are now becoming part of the high season, while others are turning into rainy months. It’s an ongoing adjustment for the entire industry, affecting routes, destinations, and travel planning.

Sustainability is also becoming a real focus. Newer yachts are built with eco-friendly materials, solar-assisted systems, and improved fuel efficiency. Some shipyards are now developing hybrid or fully electric models, investing heavily in battery technology and silent cruising modes that reduce emissions and noise. Travelers are more aware of their environmental impact and tend to choose companies that share those values.

6. What would you say to someone considering investing in or collaborating with your company—what makes G2G-Yachting truly stand out from the competition?

Transparency, honesty, and accountability. Those three words define us.

When someone trusts us, whether it’s a client booking a yacht or an owner entrusting us with their vessel, we take that seriously. We believe in clear communication, setting realistic expectations, and building long-term partnerships based on respect.

We never promise more than we can deliver. We’re upfront about what a yacht can and can’t offer, and we only collaborate with owners who share that same attitude. Maintenance, safety, and crew welfare are non-negotiable. A well-kept yacht reflects respect for the crew, the guest, and the sea itself.

At the end of the day, G2G Yachting isn’t just about luxury. It’s about relationships between clients, crews, and partners. Our success comes from treating every charter as if it were our own vacation.

And if we had to sum up why guests choose to book with us: professional service, maximum experience, no hidden costs, and no surprises. Everything is clear and arranged from the moment of booking, so clients can simply relax and enjoy the journey.
